What Gaia The Earth Mother Is
Gaia The Earth Mother is a sculptural candle by Arian Karami, made in our North Vancouver studio. She is 30cm tall, in deep forest green wax, with the tree of life in full relief: roots running down, branches spreading up and around the whole piece. Each one is cast from Arian’s original sculpture and then finished by hand, branch by branch and root by root.
The Genesis Collection
Gaia The Earth Mother belongs to the Genesis Collection, Titan Candles’ first full series: seven figures from the age before Olympus. She comes first. Before the Titans and before the Olympians, there was Gaia, the earth itself.
Every figure in the collection is built around its myth. Gaia carries the tree of life because that’s what she stands for: the source, the cycle, the ground everything else grows out of. It’s also why Arian chose her to open the series. Not a warrior or a god of thunder, just the earth.
Scale and placement
At 30cm, Gaia anchors a room without crowding it. She looks at home wherever things grow: a study, a living room, a shelf next to your plants. The green shifts a lot with the light and with whatever she’s standing on.
When you light her, the wax pools slowly, and she burns for about 24 hours in total. If you’d rather keep the carving intact, plenty of people never light her at all.
